6 Non-Profit Organizations to Support on Giving Tuesday

November 29, 2016 by Lisa Leave a Comment

Today is Giving Tuesday — a global day dedicated to giving back.

I didn’t shop on Black Friday and I didn’t order anything on Cyber Monday. But today I will happily donate a few dollars to organizations close to my heart.

It doesn’t take much to give – a few dollars, the cost of a midtown working moms lunch. And if you don’t have a few dollars to spare – that’s fine too. Donating your time is equally valuable.

6 Non-Profit Organizations to Support on Giving Tuesday

D3 Sports & Recreation. D3 Sports & Recreation is 501(c) 3 non profit organization dedicated to providing a safe and encouraging environment for individuals on the autism spectrum with opportunities to participate in sports & recreational activities regardless of their gender, cognitive, physical and/or emotional abilities. To promote and encourage community involvement and sponsorships, in order to provide services for free or low costs.

D3 Sports & Recreation is the closest to my heart. Not only was it started by a good friend, but it’s a program my son loves to be participate in. Joseph and I also serve as members of the board.

Parent to Parent NYS. Another non profit organization I’m proud to serve as a Board Member. Parent to Parent of New York State builds a supportive network of families to reduce isolation and empower those who care for people with developmental disabilities or special healthcare needs to navigate and influence service systems and make informed decisions.

Bronx Autism Parents Support Circle. The Bronx Autism Parent Support Circle was started by three Bronx moms of children on the autism spectrum. They came together to start this support group because they know that the community is underserved.

Dylan’s Wings of Change is a foundation established to honor the memory of Dylan Hockley, who was killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School on 12/14/12. The foundation’s focus is to help children with autism and other related conditions achieve their full potential.

Devin & Tristan Give Back is a nonprofit organization created by a family to inspire ordinary people to give back. They provide a unique service spotlighting causes close to people’s hearts and offering outlets that will benefit those in need.

The Orphaned Earring is dedicated to giving new meaning and purpose to your  lonely orphaned earrings. How it works:

  1. Donate your orphaned earrings or unwanted jewelry.
  2. They find a home for the earring by beading it into a bracelet while recycling material.
  3. The bracelet gets sold and together we raise funds for orphans in Latin America.

“We are aware that, at this moment, we cannot fulfill all the basic needs of all the children but we strongly believe every child at the orphanages deserve a fun childhood. With a little bit of attention, fun and lots of love, we bring arts & crafts to brighten their life, spark creative thinking and at least for a little while try to make their harsh life experiences seem like a distant memory.“

Who will you give back to this Giving Tuesday? Please let me know in the comments.

euphoria: the feeling or state of intense exciteme euphoria: the feeling or state of intense excitement and happiness 🌻 I may struggle with depression and anxiety but I also have moments of pure and genuine happiness. That is where I am right now. One of the gifts I’ve received in sobriety is the ability to hold space for all of my emotions. I feel them, I acknowledge them and I let them pass. For me, it’s in the passing where the power is... I don’t stay in it. ✨ 45 is going to be amazing. ✨
Depression and anxiety can easily knock me down. B Depression and anxiety can easily knock me down. But I continue to get up. I do my hair, throw on some hoops, dab a little gloss and give myself a pep talk. Dear Me, I know you’re scared, but you can handle this. Keep going. Love, Me 🌻#selfcareseptember #radicalbodylove
No I’m sorry or explanation necessary. Just NO a No I’m sorry or explanation necessary. Just NO and keep it moving. ”No” is hard when you’re a people pleaser but boundaries are absolutely necessary. It’s something I’m learning to do to maintain my own peace of mind. Lack of boundaries invites lack of respect. And I respect myself way too much to allow anyone to disrespect me. 💥 periodt ✌🏼 #selfcareseptember #radicalbodylove
I try to start my mornings with a gratitude list. I try to start my mornings with a gratitude list. After meditating and writing my list, I opened my Beautiful You book. Describing myself in 25 words or less without using roles or physical features was not easy. It took a little time. But I did. Making healthy choices, setting boundaries is a daily practice. I am grateful I have the willingness to do so. I am grateful I can pause and breathe through my anxiety. I am grateful I have the courage to follow my dreams. Thank you @rosiemolinary - I am grateful for your words and online presence in my life. Hope we can be in the same room again soon. xoxo amiga 💛 #selfcareseptember #radicalbodylove
