The Product That Made Me Give Up On Nighttime Potty Training

November 18, 2014 by Lisa 1 Comment

If you’ve been following our parenting journey, you know that nighttime potty training has been a bit of a challenge. But you know what?
I GIVE UP!
You heard me. I have given up on nighttime potty training Norrin.
And it’s all because of our latest discovery while shopping at Target – GoodNites Tru-Fit. Well it’s not the latest discovery. We’ve been using GoodNites Tru-Fit since late September.
I started nighttime potty training last January when Norrin turned 8 years old. I decided it was time.
We tried going without nighttime pull-ups.
We tried a potty training alarm.
We tried stopping liquids after a certain time.
We tried waking Norrin up at midnight. And at 1 AM. 2 AM. 3 AM. You get the point.
We tried a washable and reusable underwear which sort of worked…Okay. Not really. It was a hassle for me. But it may totally work for you and your kid(s).
I didn’t like the idea of a nighttime disposable pull-up because Norrin was getting really big. He mastered day time potty training years ago so he knows when he has to go. If he woke up at night – he’d use the bathroom, pull down the pull-up and it would often tear. (Pull-ups are expensive!) If it didn’t tear, it would leak.
For months I refused to put on a pull-up thinking, he’ll get it eventually. He didn’t. (Well that’s not true. He’d wake up wet in the middle of the night, change his clothes and then come into our bed.) And changing and washing sheets every single day was getting my nerves. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
That’s why I love GoodNites Tru-Fit. It’s really the best of both worlds for us. It gives Norrin the independence to pull on and up his underpants. In the morning, if he’s wet I just remove the insert and toss it. If he wakes up in the early hours of the morning and he’s wet, I remove the insert and leave him in the underpants (he’ll stay dry at that point). And if he’s dry – I reuse that bad boy. I mean I put him to bed clean, so if he’s dry – it’s still clean. Why should I waste it?

What I really appreciate is that I toss the insert and wash the underpants. No more washing sheets daily. I don’t have to soak and rinse the underpants before putting it in the wash. It’s so easy. The only thing is that I wish they came in size bigger than L/XL.

{TIPs: We also use GoodNites Disposable Bed Mats. AND GoodNites Tru-Fit underpants are great for travel because the pad inserts take up little space in your luggage!}

It took Norrin a few years to be potty trained during the day. And it may take a few more for him to be trained at night. So I’m not going to stress out about nighttime potty training any more. I know Norrin is on his way. He’ll get it. In his own time. When his body is ready. GoodNites Tru-Fit’s helped me remember that.

How’s your nighttime potty training saga going?

GoodNites products can be found at Target!

From time to time I am provided with complimentary products to write about. This isn’t one of those times. I love sharing items that I’ve purchased with my hard earned dollars that work for our family. However this post does contain an affiliate link – which means I will get a few cents if you shop at Target.

Thank you for your honesty on this post! I have a 10-year old stepdaughter with Autism and nighttime bed wetting has been a struggle (there are even cases of day time wetting when she gets distracted). I will have to check these out, particularly nice for traveling!

I’ve had these skates for 5 years and I finally I’ve had these skates for 5 years and I finally got to skate in them for real. “Why do my skates feel funny?” I wondered. I assumed it was because I’m not used to roller skates. So I spent the first 15 minutes skating with my skates on the wrong feet 🙄😐🤦🏻‍♀️ but once I fixed them - skating was a little bit easier. 🤣🤣
When the student becomes the teacher… I got to w When the student becomes the teacher… I got to workout with one of my (favorite) former students this morning! From the moment I met her 2 years ago, I knew she was a force to be reckoned with. In the classroom, she is enthusiastic, bright, confident and strong. But at the gym she’s next level! Mel really pushed me today and I know I’ll feel it tomorrow. It wasn’t easy keeping up with this 19 year old. I held my own up until she said 20 minutes on the stair master after our work out. I lasted 5 minutes and then did 15 on the elliptical. 🫠🫠 And obviously we needed a quick locker room photo shoot. 🤣 Also…I don’t know if it’s the angle or the lighting but I can’t believe my arms/back look like that! 😳🥹

I was so wrong. I am living my best years and fully present in my life. 🤍 5/6/18 🤍 5 years one day at a time (sometimes one hour, one minute, one second).

Started reading Carmen and Grace by @melissacossaq Started reading Carmen and Grace by @melissacossaquino on the 6 train. By page 5, I had to close the book and take a minute to absorb the words on the page. Ok ok ok, I also may have begun tearing up a bit. I love when a book makes me feel. There are times when I come across a book, and the words are exactly what I need at that precise moment. This is that book, this is the time. “The only way out for you is through.” 🤍

Yes. It does. But what feels even better is that I feel strong. Stronger than I’ve ever felt in my entire life. Thanks for an amazing class @freelikeoj_allday & @tiabrooks_0106 for always offering to take a picture.

Rompers seem like such a cute easy outfit until yo Rompers seem like such a cute easy outfit until you have to pee. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I almost dislocated a shoulder trying to get in and out of this.
Earlier this week, I was unpacking my spring/summe Earlier this week, I was unpacking my spring/summer clothes. I found 3 dresses that I’ve had forever - probably 15 years. They were probably only worn once. I held on to them, even though I couldn’t fit into them. Because I knew one day, I would fit into them again. Over the last 2 years, I’ve lost some weight but they still didn’t fit last summer. When I tried them on this week, they fit! I haven’t been able to fit into these dresses in more than a decade. And so yesterday I put on the blue dress. I didn’t go anywhere spectacular. I wasn’t on a date. I visited a friend in the neighborhood, went to a meeting and then White Castle (don’t judge me). When I first bought this dress and when it fit, I held on to it - waiting for an occasion. I refuse to do that. I’m not waiting for a man to take me out, or a party or an event. If I want to wear something, I will wear it. I am the special occasion. I am the event. I am worth getting dressed up for.

Also - I realize that holding on to clothing for 15 years hoping it will fit again is probably not normal. But oh well. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣
