As a kid, I got new shoes twice a year: Back-to-school and Easter. Even if I didn’t get new clothes for Easter Sunday, I was guaranteed a new pair of shoes. For Joseph, it was the same thing. Without realizing it, we’ve been following that same pattern with Norrin.
Last weekend, we headed to Kohl’s to look for new Easter clothing. And I Snapped the whole thing because…why not? (Check out my Snap Story below.)
We don’t celebrate Easter in the traditional sense. Not like how I grew up, with Sunday mass and my mother cooking a big dinner. We keep it pretty casual.
Mom Confession: I’ve never made Easter eggs with Norrin. Seeing all the cute Easter decor has me inspired…this year may be the year!
Our Idea of a Casual Easter Sunday
For the last few years, we’ve spent Easter Sunday at The Bronx Zoo and then heading to brunch over on City Island. But even though we keep it low key, we still like to have something new. (Who doesn’t, right?)
What I like about visiting The Bronx Zoo on Easter Sunday is that we get the chance to have our picture taken by one of the photographers. It’s not often that we get the chance to have pictures taken as a family, so having it done on Easter has become a nice little tradition.
Casual Easter = Cute & Comfy Clothing
Whenever I buy anything, I think about versatility and cost. As a mom who works in a business casual office environment, I like clothes that can be worn at work and on the weekends. While Kohl’s has an amazing selection for women, I especially loved the Sonoma Goods for Life collection because their pieces can be dressed up or down. And the denim dress I purchased is something that can take me through the seasons and worn several ways. I had a hard time picking out the right accessory – there was so much to choose from. In the end, I picked a pretty floral scarf. Because you know it’s still a little chilly here in NYC.
Shopping for Norrin is a bit challenging. He’s 10 now and at the weird kid stage. You know that stage where it’s like your kid literally grows overnight. He’s also a little husky and can easily fit into a men’s small. Then there’s the autism and his fine/gross motor skills to deal with. Norrin can button a shirt but has difficulty with buttons/zippers on jeans. I look for pants that have an elastic waistband so that it’s easier for him to manage especially during school hours.
(I found a pair of jogger jeans – they were super soft and had an elastic waistband – in the kids section at Kohl’s but they didn’t have Norrin’s size. I found them easily online.)
To make it easier Joseph picked two button-down shirts from the men’s section – one for himself and one for Norrin. If I know Joseph they’ll rock their shirts unbuttoned with sleeves rolled up and a graphic tee underneath.
Side note: When it comes to clothes, Joseph thinks he has better taste. If you watch my Snap Story you’ll see that he holds up a shirt and the second I say I like it, he puts it down.
No Easter Sunday outfit is ever complete without a new pair of shoes or in our case, sneakers.
By the way, Norrin and I are the same shoe size now. Which means in a few months, I’ll be wearing those white high tops.
The best part about everything I bought at Kohl’s? It was all on sale! I even walked out with some Kohl’s cash for next time.
I’ll be sharing our complete casual Easter outfits on Sunday. I can’t see what you and yours will be wearing.
