Do you remember those V8 commercials from the 80s? (Yup, totally dating myself.) The one with the guy walking sideways until he has his V8 and then he’s “straightened out.”
I have to admit that as a kid, V8 wasn’t the juice I wanted. I actually had a good friend who loved it and I’d watch her down an entire bottle of it while I sipped on soda.
At 4o, I no longer drink soda. And as a mom, I’m always trying to find healthier juice options for myself and my family. I’ve been seeing V8 V-Fusion® juice at Walmart for a while and was curious. I’m not a kid anymore and my palate has changed. Could I be grown up enough to appreciate V8?
Luckily Walmart offers a huge selection of V8 options and I went with my favorite fruit combinations: Strawberry Banana and Peach Mango (Light).
I was pleased that V8 V-Fusion® contains no added sugar and no high fructose corn syrup. That’s always a must since what I buy for myself, my son usually drinks. Norrin has autism and ADHD, the last thing he needs is any extra sugar.
But would I like it? I’ll admit, I was skeptical. In my head V8 is vegetable juice. And that’s totally fine, if you like it. Even my husband – who loves V8 vegetable juice – didn’t think it would appeal to me.
But I loved it.
It was not what I expected at all. It was light, sweet and refreshing. I tasted all of the fruit and none of the veggies. Don’t get me wrong, I love vegetables but I don’t always want to drink them. The combination of vegetables and the right amount of fruit gives V8 V-Fusion® a light sweet taste. Every 8oz. glass (1 serving) = ½ cup of fruit and/or vegetables.
Norrin and Joseph loved the Strawberry Banana. And I claimed the Peach Mango as my own.
I’m motivated to get healthy and strong this year. I’m determined to get the gym at least once a week. And the Peach Mango V-Fusion Light is the perfect pre or post workout drink. And since they’re also available in 8oz. multipacks – it’s something I can just toss in my bag and enjoy while on the go.
But wanting to go the gym and being motivated to go are two different things. As a writer, I love words – especially inspiring ones. I like to keep little notes, cards or postcards all over – just as little reminders to keep me focused.
Since one of my goals of 2016 is to get stronger and healthier, I wanted to create something to motivate me on the days when I’m not really in the mood.
DIY Words of Inspiration Frames
Step 1. The first thing I did was think of healthy inspiration quotes.
- Feet, what do I need you for when I have wings to fly? Frida Kahlo
- You’ve gotta do things that make you happy. As women, we tend to give away a lot. We take care of a lot of people, and we can’t forget to take care of ourselves. Jennifer Lopez
- I do not think about being beautiful. What I devote most of my time to is being healthy. Ann Bancroft
- You have to be strong. My Mom
I wanted them to be quotes from women whose beauty and strength I admire. When it comes to beauty and strength, I knew I had to include something from my mom. She has been one of my biggest sources of inspiration.
From an early age, my mother always wanted me to focus on my strength rather than on beauty. In Latino culture, we focus a lot on beauty and fashion but it doesn’t matter how perfect your makeup is or how trendy your clothes are if you are not healthy and strong. I think that’s the best lesson, I learned from my mom.
Step 2. Create a Printable using PicMonkey.
I love PicMonkey! I pay for the Royal account but there are so many images you can create using the free features. (They have lots of tutorials and it’s a cool app to play around with.) After you’ve created your printable, print them out. I used regular printer paper but feel free to use photo paper.
*And if you don’t have or like PicMonkey – no worries, feel free to use any photo editing app.
Step 3. Cut out printables & insert into frame
I happened to have spare 4×6 frames. But Walmart has an amazing craft section with wooden frames ready to paint and decorate.
Step 4. Decorate
I am obsessed with washi tape! I’m not much of a crafter but washi tape makes it super easy to jazz up ordinary items. I used the washi tape to embellish my frames.
Step 5. Hang them up!
I wanted my frames to be visible to me on a daily basis. What better place than at my desk! Hang up your words of inspiration somewhere you’ll be sure to see them.
If you haven’t tried V8 V-Fusion®, be inspired to try something new this year! So let go of your V8 misconceptions – it’s a refreshing juice with the perfect amount of sweetness that you can feel good about drinking.
