Besame Cosmetics: Vintage Beauty Products Inspired by the Golden Age

December 10, 2016 by Lisa Leave a Comment

I love makeup and have been obsessed with old Hollywood glamour since I was 9-years-old. That’s why I love Besame Cosmetics and was thrilled to be sent some makeup goodies to play with.

When I first learned about Besame Cosmetics, I was intrigued by the founder, Gabriela Hernandez, and her inspiration behind the brand.

Bésame Cosmetics was created by artist, cosmetic historian, and designer Gabriela Hernandez after a life-long love affair with vintage beauty. At 12, Gabriela immigrated to the U.S. from Buenos Aires, always fascinated by her grandmother’s sophisticated beauty routine. With her creative background, historical know-how, and cherished memories of her grandmother’s makeup, Gabriela finally developed the beauty brand of her dreams, filled with rich, historical details in wearable long-lasting formulas. She wanted Bésame to bring romance back into the makeup industry, allowing women to feel excited and passionate about their own beauty rituals again.

I fell in love with the inspiration and the packaging is exquisite — the vintage glamour of it. It seemed like something that Joan Crawford or Marilyn Monroe would have displayed on their vanity.

Gabriela Hernandez really takes the time to seek out vintage makeup and colors and then recreates the product. AND they are cruelty free.

It’s easy to fall in love with makeup on line (I blame YouTube) but it’s another thing to love it in real life. Bésame Cosmetics did not disappoint me. And I’m eager to buy more from the brand.

Let’s Talk Lips

All of the lipsticks are lipstick shades are true replicas from a decade and/or year. The color I was sent was C208: Bésame Red – a true replica of a color from 1920.

It’s the perfect shade of red that will complement many skin tones. It’s creamy, super pigmented and long-lasting. As a mom who works outside the home, I don’t like reapplying lipstick throughout the day. But I’ve put on this lipstick in the morning and it’s pretty impressive. I can drink coffee, eat cereal and don’t have to reapply until well after lunch.

About The Setting Powders

Real talk: I’m over 40, I have some serious bags under my eyes and I have oily/combination skin. Concealer is my BFF and this gal needs a setting powder to keep it from creasing. I received the Mini Powder Set and love it!

The set contains a 3g mini violet, mini vanilla rose, and mini vanilla powder. They leave a natural matte finish and do not show in flash photography.

After applying foundation and concealer, I dip a damp beauty sponge into the setting powder to set my concealer. As I wipe off the excess I apply it to my nose, forehead and chin – the places where I can get  greasy (Trust, a gal can get greasy!).

TIP: I’ve used these setting powders with a brush and a beauty sponge but prefer to apply with a damp beauty sponge. Play around and figure out what works best for you.

What  I love about the Bésame brightening settings powders is that I can mix and all three together to perfect a powder for my skin tone. I can also use them individually to brighten and correct as needed. I typically apply under eyes and around nose to conceal darkness/redness.

I appreciate that the powders don’t cake up – no one wants cake face. And they don’t dry out my skin. The scent is light and appealing. Again, as an oily gal, I love that they keep my skin matte and bright.

More ab0ut Bésame

Bésame has been making luxurious cosmetics inspired by the golden age of cinema in Los Angeles, California since 2004. We are a family company driven by a passion for quality and design that touches everything we make. Mixing history, science, and art to create exceptional products that inspire and define the power of the classic woman.

Besame Cosmetics can also be found at Sephora.

I received Bésame Products for review purposes. All opinions are my own.

I’ve had these skates for 5 years and I finally I’ve had these skates for 5 years and I finally got to skate in them for real. “Why do my skates feel funny?” I wondered. I assumed it was because I’m not used to roller skates. So I spent the first 15 minutes skating with my skates on the wrong feet 🙄😐🤦🏻‍♀️ but once I fixed them - skating was a little bit easier. 🤣🤣
When the student becomes the teacher… I got to w When the student becomes the teacher… I got to workout with one of my (favorite) former students this morning! From the moment I met her 2 years ago, I knew she was a force to be reckoned with. In the classroom, she is enthusiastic, bright, confident and strong. But at the gym she’s next level! Mel really pushed me today and I know I’ll feel it tomorrow. It wasn’t easy keeping up with this 19 year old. I held my own up until she said 20 minutes on the stair master after our work out. I lasted 5 minutes and then did 15 on the elliptical. 🫠🫠 And obviously we needed a quick locker room photo shoot. 🤣 Also…I don’t know if it’s the angle or the lighting but I can’t believe my arms/back look like that! 😳🥹

I was so wrong. I am living my best years and fully present in my life. 🤍 5/6/18 🤍 5 years one day at a time (sometimes one hour, one minute, one second).

Started reading Carmen and Grace by @melissacossaq Started reading Carmen and Grace by @melissacossaquino on the 6 train. By page 5, I had to close the book and take a minute to absorb the words on the page. Ok ok ok, I also may have begun tearing up a bit. I love when a book makes me feel. There are times when I come across a book, and the words are exactly what I need at that precise moment. This is that book, this is the time. “The only way out for you is through.” 🤍

Earlier this week, I was unpacking my spring/summe Earlier this week, I was unpacking my spring/summer clothes. I found 3 dresses that I’ve had forever - probably 15 years. They were probably only worn once. I held on to them, even though I couldn’t fit into them. Because I knew one day, I would fit into them again. Over the last 2 years, I’ve lost some weight but they still didn’t fit last summer. When I tried them on this week, they fit! I haven’t been able to fit into these dresses in more than a decade. And so yesterday I put on the blue dress. I didn’t go anywhere spectacular. I wasn’t on a date. I visited a friend in the neighborhood, went to a meeting and then White Castle (don’t judge me). When I first bought this dress and when it fit, I held on to it - waiting for an occasion. I refuse to do that. I’m not waiting for a man to take me out, or a party or an event. If I want to wear something, I will wear it. I am the special occasion. I am the event. I am worth getting dressed up for.

Also - I realize that holding on to clothing for 15 years hoping it will fit again is probably not normal. But oh well. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣
