Trader Joe’s is our go-to for frozen foods, snacks and treats. My favorite treat is Trader Joe’s Popcorn with Herbs & Spices.
I can easily eat the entire bag in one sitting. I’m not proud of this, but it’s the truth. It’s that good!
Living in The Bronx and being a non-driver, I can’t just get up and go to Trader Joe’s when the mood strikes.
Side note/Side eye: The Bronx is the only borough in NYC without a Trader Joe’s.
And there are plenty of Saturday nights when I’d love a big bowl of Trader Joe’s Popcorn with Herbs & Spices. So I decided to make my own.
It was just as good as the one I buy at Trader Joe’s. And so incredibly easy to make!
Trader Joe’s Popcorn with Herbs & Spices Copy Cat Recipe

- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1 tsp Celery Seed
- 1 tsp Dill
- 1/2 tsp Sea Salt
Directions
- Pop popcorn.
- Combine and stir yeast, onion powder, garlic powder, celery seed, dill & sea salt to make Herbs & Spices seasoning.
- Add Olive Oil to seasoning, stir to combine
- Transfer popcorn to larger mixing bowl.
- Drizzle Herbs & Spices mixture over popcorn.
I've made this with and without pepper. I prefer it without. But if you like pepper - have at it!
Norrin loves it too. He was actually my inspiration behind my Trader Joe’s Popcorn copy cat recipe. He’s been asking to make popcorn in a popcorn machine lately – why? don’t know.
I know popcorn makers can get pricy and I didn’t want anything that would be too complicated or take up space. I purchased the Lékué Popcorn Maker from Sur La Table. It’s silicon, it’s collapsable and it’s only $20. It’s easy to clean and pretty much a no brainer to use.
I grew up with Jiffy Pop – you know that old school popcorn you made on the stove. And I’ll occasionally buy the microwave popcorn bags.
So this was my first attempt making popcorn with popcorn kernels. I was surprised by how a little could go a long way – 1/3 cup is enough for all of us to enjoy.
And I couldn’t resist the vintage popcorn container.
The Lékué Popcorn Maker comes with a few recipes and I’m eager to make our own popcorn concoctions.
Now whenever I make popcorn for our family movie nights, Norrin calls it: Playing Movie Theatre.

Hi! I too can eat an entire bag of this in one sitting – and then use my fingers to get all the seasoning out of the bag! Do you use ground celery seed or whole?

I literally can’t thank you enough for this recipe. I have recently become absolutely in love with Trader Joe’s Popcorn with Herbs & Spices, so naturally, I wanted to figure it out on my own. I have failed over and over again trying to figure it out. Your recipe is spot on!
