Makeup for Mom: Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Stick in Rich Raisin

March 9, 2014 by Lisa 2 Comments

I have always liked Kerry Washington. Not only is she a native New Yorker like me, but she was born in The Bronx (holla). But I didn’t quite understand the hype around Scandal or Kerry Washington’s character Olivia Pope. After binge watching Season 1 a few Saturdays ago, I have officially jumped on the Scandal bandwagon. (I’m still on Season 2 so por favor, no spoilers here.)

I thought Kerry Washington looked radiant on the red carpet last Sunday. I have always loved makeup when it’s simple and elegant. And I immediately knew it was a look I could pull off. I think that’s the appeal to Kerry Washington’s character, Olivia Pope – her look is simple and sophisticated, feminine yet strong.

Here I am rocking the same lip color and mascara as Kerry Washington at The Oscars®. And I’m feeling fabulous and scandalous.
Eyes: Neutrogena® Healthy Volume Mascara in Carbon Black
Lips: Neutrogena® MoistureSmooth Color Stick in Rich Raisin
The mascara is light and doesn’t clump. It lengthens my lashes and still looks natural. But the Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Sticks are my favorite! It’s smooth, applies a rich color and adds the right amount of shine without feeling sticky. I have them in several colors and carry one with me at all times. It glides on easily and ideal for everyday wear.
As a working special needs mom, mornings and getting out the door can be tough. But this  look can be achieved in minutes. So if you don’t have time for anything else, mascara and lip color will do wonders.

Step by Step with Makeup Artist Carola González:

Preparation: To prep Kerry’s skin I always use Neutrogena® Shine Control Primer on her face and Neutrogena® Revitalizing Lip Balm on her lips for hydration before lipstick application. It really helps to keep lips moisturized and diminish the appearance of dryness on the lips. Leave for at least 20 minutes before lipstick application. For flawless glowing skin, I applied foundation all over Kerry’s face to even it out of any imperfections.

Cheeks: I highlighted her cheekbones with Neutrogena® Healthy Skin Blends in Sunkissed. This added radiance and the perfect shade of color to Kerry’s cheekbones for this specific look.

Eyes: I used Neutrogena® Crease Proof Eye Shadow in Stay-Put Plum all over Kerry’s eyelids and blended on crease. I only used one shade to keep eyes to a bare minimum. Next, I used Neutrogena® Nourishing Eye Liner in Cosmic Black to line the upper lash line, right where the lashes connect with the skin, and diffused it with a brush to soften the liner. I then applied 5 coats on top lashes with Neutrogena® Healthy Volume Mascara in Carbon Black to add lots of volume, and two coats on the lower lashes. I really like this mascara because it adds the right amount of volume and you can build a lash without clumps.

Lips: Dark lipstick topped with Neutrogena® MoistureSmooth Color Stick in Rich Raisin to add a bit of sheen.

I’ve had these skates for 5 years and I finally I’ve had these skates for 5 years and I finally got to skate in them for real. “Why do my skates feel funny?” I wondered. I assumed it was because I’m not used to roller skates. So I spent the first 15 minutes skating with my skates on the wrong feet 🙄😐🤦🏻‍♀️ but once I fixed them - skating was a little bit easier. 🤣🤣
When the student becomes the teacher… I got to w When the student becomes the teacher… I got to workout with one of my (favorite) former students this morning! From the moment I met her 2 years ago, I knew she was a force to be reckoned with. In the classroom, she is enthusiastic, bright, confident and strong. But at the gym she’s next level! Mel really pushed me today and I know I’ll feel it tomorrow. It wasn’t easy keeping up with this 19 year old. I held my own up until she said 20 minutes on the stair master after our work out. I lasted 5 minutes and then did 15 on the elliptical. 🫠🫠 And obviously we needed a quick locker room photo shoot. 🤣 Also…I don’t know if it’s the angle or the lighting but I can’t believe my arms/back look like that! 😳🥹

I was so wrong. I am living my best years and fully present in my life. 🤍 5/6/18 🤍 5 years one day at a time (sometimes one hour, one minute, one second).

Started reading Carmen and Grace by @melissacossaq Started reading Carmen and Grace by @melissacossaquino on the 6 train. By page 5, I had to close the book and take a minute to absorb the words on the page. Ok ok ok, I also may have begun tearing up a bit. I love when a book makes me feel. There are times when I come across a book, and the words are exactly what I need at that precise moment. This is that book, this is the time. “The only way out for you is through.” 🤍

Yes. It does. But what feels even better is that I feel strong. Stronger than I’ve ever felt in my entire life. Earlier this week, I was unpacking my spring/summe Earlier this week, I was unpacking my spring/summer clothes. I found 3 dresses that I’ve had forever - probably 15 years. They were probably only worn once. I held on to them, even though I couldn’t fit into them. Because I knew one day, I would fit into them again. Over the last 2 years, I’ve lost some weight but they still didn’t fit last summer. When I tried them on this week, they fit! I haven’t been able to fit into these dresses in more than a decade. And so yesterday I put on the blue dress. I didn’t go anywhere spectacular. I wasn’t on a date. I visited a friend in the neighborhood, went to a meeting and then White Castle (don’t judge me). When I first bought this dress and when it fit, I held on to it - waiting for an occasion. I refuse to do that. I’m not waiting for a man to take me out, or a party or an event. If I want to wear something, I will wear it. I am the special occasion. I am the event. I am worth getting dressed up for.

Also - I realize that holding on to clothing for 15 years hoping it will fit again is probably not normal. But oh well. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣
