Disclosure: I received a copy of Little Chickies/Los Pollitos book and compensation. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
One of my favorite memories of being a new mom was those late night/early morning feedings. As exhausted as I was, I loved those moments of quiet when it was just me and him. I’d sit in the rocker with him wrapped in my arms and while I was feeding him, I’d sing the only Spanish nursery rhyme I knew: Los Pollitos Dicen.

Even though I didn’t understand every word of what I was singing, I found the song soothing. Norrin did too because he usually fell asleep by the end of the song.
LITTLE CHICKIES/LOS POLLITOS BOOK (Canticos)
The book is written and illustrated by Susan Jaramillo. The Brooklyn-based author/illustrated shares:
“As a Latina mom exposed to songs and traditions from both the US and my native Venezuela, I’ve had a hard time finding books and apps of the nursery rhymes I grew up with. In talking to people in both Latino and non-Latino communities, I realized this was missing from bookshelves and digital platforms everywhere.”
While Norrin has definitely outgrown board books, I like the Little Chickies / Los Pollitos book because of the dual language. One side of the book is English and flip it over for the Spanish version. Norrin is curious about Spanish and he’s picked up many words and phrases. The book is a great introduction for incorporating more Spanish in our reading routine.
I wish this book would have been available when Norrin was much younger. It’s durable for little hands and the interactive lift-the-flap and spin-wheel features make it extra fun. Little Chickies / Los Pollitos is a must-have for every young child’s library.
Little Chickies is available on Amazon (hardcover & kindle edition).

Sing, play and learn with three adorable Little Chickies!
Inspired by the beloved Latino nursery rhyme “Los Pollitos Dicen” (Little Chicks Say), three little chickies peep and sing ‘pío pío pío’ throughout a variety of creative play experiences that expose young children to music, language and creativity.
The nursery rhyme is available in 8 languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, Hindi, Japanese and Chinese) and there are multiple creative play experiences that kids will love. From decorating eggs, designing a bouquet of flowers to playing the guitar – kids can explore their creativity and their love for music and language. Norrin especially loves the guitar feature. It’s great for kids to work on their fine motor skills.
For every Canticos book or app purchased, a portion of the proceeds goes to provide books and apps to children in low-income communities.
