We live in a two-bedroom apartment. Before Norrin was born, his room was used as a home office space. In a perfect world, I’d have a dedicated room to write. But I don’t. So I have to make do with the space I have.
When it comes to writing, there are certain books that I read for inspiration, insight, guidance. Stephen King’s book On Writing is one that I’ve read over and over again. There are pages tabbed, passages highlighted. He has a few passages on his writing space, his process and how it’s evolved.
I don’t need a dedicated home office. But I know writing on the living room sofa isn’t always productive. King’s quote was the inspiration behind creating my place to write.

FIY this isn’t a sponsored post, but I wanted to use some of the items I’ve purchased (or still waiting to purchase) to create a DIY Home Office Wayfair Inspiration Board. However, not all items on shown in my DIY Home Office were purchased through Wayfair.
DIY HOME OFFICE: Creating a Place to Write
In the corner of my bedroom, I placed a small writing desk. It’s nothing fancy and has one small drawer. It’s perfect for my laptop and a few desk accessories. I especially love the Poppin desk accessories – they’re stackable and come in an assortment of fun colors. They’re ideal for paper storage and I like the thin trays for a little more space to store items.
I don’t like standard computer chairs. I wanted something pretty and feminine and comfortable. I just ordered a pillow and during the week, I’ll pick up a throw to drape over my chair. My desk is right by the window and I like keeping the windows open during the winter months and wrapping myself in a cozy sweater or throw.
Above my desk is a magnetic white board. I write notes to myself, display cute stickers or motivational quotes.
Since it’s Christmas, I have white lights and LED wire string lights around my white board and desk area. I don’t know why but lights make me happy. They also come in handy during late night writing.
I also purchased a criss cross shelf set. They’re perfect to display all my little trinkets and collectables.
To appeal my sensory needs, I have a small area rug under my desk. I love rubbing my bare feet against the rug – its super soft and fuzzy. Yeah, yeah I know it doesn’t necessarily go with my chair but I like it and it works for me.
My writing space is truly the only place in our apartment that’s just for me. No one else sits here. It’s as girly as I want it to be. I can close the door and have privacy.
You don’t need a home office. All you need is a desk, a chair and a little inspiration. Click To Tweet
