Last Sunday we woke up and headed to the zoo – we like to get there as soon as it opens. It’s my favorite time because it feels like just us and the animals. And I was especially to visit last week to kick off the #NYisWILD campaign.
This year, the Wildlife Conservation Society is celebrating its 120th anniversary. To celebrate the WCS is kicking off a city-wide celebration called #NYisWILD and invites all visitors to join the summer-long photo safari.
You can participate by choosing any of the 120 “wild attractions” and sharing a photo of each for a chance to win. Keep track of all progress on NYisWild.com by logging in via an Instagram or Twitter account. From April to August participants can capture each attraction using Instagram or Twitter with #NYisWild and also hashtagging the number of the clue.
There are several prizes available, including a special Grand Prize. Entry to win these prizes increases for hitting certain milestones (ex: Escape for 2 to Belize for completing 10/120 or Whale Watching Tour for 4 With WCS Scientists for completing 50/120).
We went looking for the Flamingos – which I had seen before but never really noticed where they were. They weren’t out but now I’m eager to return because it’s a beautiful walkway to the Caribbean Flamingo. And we entered Madagascar for the first time – there are so many cool attractions like the Fossa and the Lemurs. We walked through Africa and heard the lion roar – that was really cool! And using the list of attractions, I got to engage with me and help me find the animals.
But it goes beyond the Bronx Zoo other Wildlife Conservation Society parks – there are attractions in and around New York City. Like the New York Public Library Lions, the East River Seals or the Blue Whale at AMNH.
It’s Spring Break for most NYC kids – take them on a photo taking safari and let them explore their wild side. There is an exclusive discount for 20% off all tickets purchased only through NYisWild.com.
